Good news for renters

6th February 2017

A new Government white paper will focus attention on more affordable and secure property rentals. This represents a shift in Tory housing policy that, since the 1980s, has always been keen to promote homeownership as an aspiration.

One of the proposals is for landlords to be offered incentives for guaranteed three year tenancies and as Sajid Javid, the communities secretary points out: ‘These measures will help renters have the security they need to plan for the future’. In addition, new measures will be introduced to ban unscrupulous landlords offering sub-standard accommodation as well as a consultation on banning some of the fees that letting agents charge.
