International Chamber of Commerce Arbitration Conference

24th August 2017

Ignacio Morillas-Paredes of Colman Coyle Solicitors is attending the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Arbitration Conference in Havana on 25th August 2017.

The conference will deal with the implementation of the new ICC Rules.  These new Rules came into place on 1st March 2017 and entail rules such as an expedited procedure for cases falling below a particular threshold, the express provision for the appointment of one sole arbitrator to hear the matter or the lack of need for the Tribunal to draw up Terms of Reference.

All the changes are highly practicable, particularly in the case one of our clients, a Spanish multi-national company in the renewable energy industry, who entered into three contracts with another Spanish multi-national solar company for the provision of services at three different sites in the UK.  A dispute has arisen between the companies whereby, pursuant to the contracts, resolution of any issues will be dealt with according to the International Chamber of Commerce Arbitration Rules, with Spanish law as the applicable law, English as the language utilised and London as the arbitration setting.

We trust this conference will be very fruitful for our client’s needs.
