Colman Coyle unveils new Solicitor Career progression Framework

After months of planning, Colman Coyle finalised the firm's new internal career progression structure with the introduction of a new level.

All solicitors after a maximum of two years will now be promoted to associate level, whereby not only will they concentrate on further developing legal knowledge, but all associates will also focus on developing other managerial and business development skills.

Whereas previously the next step following associate, after an unspecified number of years would have been junior partner; now before reaching this level associates can be made up to senior associate at the firm.

The introduction of this level gives those promoted an insight into what is expected of a partner at Colman Coyle. Those promoted will not only be learning how to become a manager, but will also be more exposed to the mechanics of running the firm.

As with the majority of law firms, the "measuring stick" when it comes to deciding on promotions is no longer the PQE of an individual. Rather, Colman Coyle will base these decisions on the performance of the indivdual. Robert Coyle, partner at the firm described the introduction of the framework as a "huge step in the right direction in developing the objectives and managing the expectations of solicitors going throuygh the firm." Robert also noted that it "ensures the continued expansion and growth of the firm".
